We are pretty passionate about B Corps. Obviously. So we get excited when we see other companies certify, plan to certify, and start spreading the word about B Corps. Panzanzee is one of those companies. They’re a social enterprise incubator, located here in Chicago. They posted a great piece on what Benefit Corporations are and why they intend to certify. We love how they view the role of the legislation and

Lose weight. Get organized. Exercise more. Spend Less. Save more. Sound familiar? Resolutions are nice, but let’s face it; most of us don’t stick to them. So, at Compass(x) Strategy, we aren’t making resolutions. We have set goals, made plans and are aggressively focused on following through with them. So, I wanted to take a minute and tell you about about what we have done and what we are planning for 2013
January 2, 2013 was an amazing day where we were able to join thirteen other companies from Illinois in registering as B Corporations on the first day possible in Illinois. Many thanks to state Sen. Michael Frerichs and state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, who were strong supporters of the legislature, and were present at the press conference. We also have Rep. Recently I had the pleasure of chatting with Zak Normandin and Ashley Brady from Little Duck Organics, an organic food company that makes kid-approved healthy snacks. These folks are building an inspirational business. Mindful Medicine Worldwide is a non-profit that seeks to bring long-term integrative healthcare to developing regions. Started in 2009, they already have two clinics in Nepal and are developing a clinic on the Thai-Burmese border. This is more than drop shipping doctors into remote regions. Not only are these clinics staffed 12 months a year with each practitioner volunteer in the clinic for 2-5 months each for pati
A few weeks ago, I was introduced to the board game Go. This is the most amazing game I have ever played: it’s strategic, creative and challenging. It is a simple game to learn, but difficult to master. Words cannot express how bad I am at this game. But I am learning, (hopefully) improving, and loving the process of getting better. Here’s how it works: two players alternate placing stones on the board in an
Welcome to a new segment that we at Compass(x) Strategy are calling “Being a B.” I speak with a lot of business owners, entrepreneurs and students and I get a lot of questions. What is this B Corporation thing? What does Compass(x) Strategy do that makes it a B Corp? Should my company become a B Corporation? To address these questions, in each newsletter we will feature what that we, and other B Corps that we di
Measure What Matters for Your Business Recently, I started seeing an acupuncturist to alleviate my allergies, chronic bronchitis and other respiratory joys (Her name is Grainne McKeown and she is awesome). The first time I went, Grainne took my pulse(s). Yep. Pulses. Plural. Twelve readings to be exact. The reason for this, I was told, was that while Western medicine only measures the quantity of the pulse (beat
